See Usage Notes

Users who choose transactional, “pay-as-you-go” pricing rather than an annual contract have a choice of the pricing method for the search component of their online searching: Connect Time or DialUnits. The two choices are fundamentally different ways of measuring search activity. Connect time, as the name implies, literally measures and charges based upon the amount of time you are connected to a database — irrespective of what you are doing (actively searching, using help commands, browsing, or answering the phone). DialUnits measures the amount of CPU processing required by each command — essentially how much effort the Dialog computers take to process your search commands. The default mode is DialUnits.

Use SET CONNECT to set the method for charging for search time. SET CONNECT ON changes method of charging from DialUnits to Connect Time. Use SET CONNECT OFF to reset to DialUnits.

You select to use the connect-time option by entering a line into your Dialog Profile: SET CONNECT ON. See EDIT Profile for more information about working with your Dialog Profile. After you save the changes and logoff, the change will be in effect the next time you log into the service. Remember, you must log off and log back on for the setting to take effect.
