Dialog ERA Command Options Tracking Records After Your Initial Search Redistribution Pricing Online HELP and Customer Assistance

Dialog ERA (Electronic Redistribution and Archiving) now provides you with an easy way to make sure your redistribution and archival activities comply with copyright law. While on Dialog, you can order additional copies, purchase the right to make additional copies on your own, or purchase the right to electronically archive information from Dialog databases on your company's in-house system.

Dialog ERA Command Options:

COPIES n: Provides from Dialog one printed paper copy plus n number (up to 100) of paper copies.

REDIST n: Provides from Dialog one original copy and grants you the right to make n number of copies to use within your organization.

ARCHIVE n: Provides from Dialog one original copy and grants you the right to electronically store it with n number of relevant people in your organization accessing the information. ARCHIVE n only covers the number of relevant people accessing the internal application's single machine/server or the intranet where the record(s) resides.

After-The-Fact Tracking

Dialog ERA provides an option to report additional copies or archival rights after your initial TYPE, DISPLAY, or PRINT request. This "after-the-fact" feature allows you to record information about records you have copied or archived. Simply enter REDIST or ARCHIVE by itself and supply the answers to the prompted questions. You can also enter after-the-fact information on a single command line.

Dialog ERA After-The-Fact Command Examples:

  • REDIST (entered alone this brings up a prompted version)
  • REDIST File n/Format n/n Items/n Copies
  • REDIST File n/Format n/n Items/n Copies/Accession number, Accession number
  • ARCHIVE (entered alone this brings up a prompted version)
  • ARCHIVE File n/Format n/n Items/n Users
  • ARCHIVE File n/Format n/n Items/n Users/Accession number, Accession number

Redistribution Pricing

When you use the REDIST or COPIES option, standard DIALOG prices are incurred by the format designated and the output command used, and are multiplied by a multiplier that is determined by the number of "copies" requested. The multiplier is based on the file's current per record, per format cost. The ARCHIVE option has a different multiplier table because it is based on the number of relevant people in your organization that have access to the archived data. Refer online to HELP RATES nnn, where nnn is the file number, for the most current multiplier table.

Redistribution and archival costs will be displayed in the Dialog cost estimator, which appears when you change files, enter LOGOFF or LOGOFF HOLD, or when you enter a COST command. These charges will also appear on your invoice.

Refer online to the following for more information:

  • HELP ERA: Lists service terms and conditions, participating databases, and lists which databases need accession number entries in after-the-fact tracking and/or have additional terms and conditions
  • HELP RATES nnn: Provides the most current multiplier table for individual databases (nnn represents the database number)
  • HELP TERMS nnn: Lists individual database terms and conditions (nnn represents the database number)
