Dialog ERASM (Electronic Redistribution and Archiving) Service
Introduction to Dialog ERA
Dialog ERA is an online service that
provides a powerful, easy-to-use method to
- Distribute multiple copies of Dialog
search results throughout your organization, using REDIST n
- Legally store search results on your intranet,
LAN, or on an internal database, using ARCHIVE n
- Receive additional paper copies of
Dialog output for redistribution in your organization, using COPIES n
Dialog ERA enables you to electronically
store and redistribute copies of Dialog search results to coworkers in your
organization. An organization is defined by the specific legal entity listed
in the customer information block of the Dialog Standard
Service agreement on file at Dialog. The definition includes
your company's employees, divisions, and branch offices.
With Dialog ERA you can access many databases (see ERA Status of Databases), find
the results you need, purchase redistribution and/or archival rights for
your organization's redistribution and archival needs, and then receive
the search results by a variety of delivery methods.
For more information online on the Dialog ERA options, enter HELP REDIST,
HELP ARCHIVE, or HELP COPIES.
NOTE: HELP RATES nnn: Provides the most current multiplier tables
for individual databases (nnn represents the database number). Use HELP
RATES to determine REDIST, ARCHIVE, and COPIES charges before entering a
transaction.
For a list of databases NOT participating in the Dialog ERA service, enter
HELP NOERA.

Dialog ERA Guidelines for Users
- Information from these databases
is delivered to users as intellectual property, copyrighted
by the Information Providers and subject to the current
database-specific Terms and Conditions of each Information
Provider, provisions of international copyright conventions
and other intellectual property laws.
- These guidelines apply to all forms of distribution (printed, electronic,
etc.) in any Dialog output formats.
- Pricing is based on the then-current Dialog multiplier formula upon user's
execution of the appropriate online command(s).
- Subject to the current database-specific Terms
and Conditions, a single
user may copy and use information from Dialog services
and keep it indefinitely for his own individual use.
- Upon executing a REDIST or COPIES command, a user has permission to redistribute
a specified number of copies only within the user's organization.*
- Authorized redistribution may be machine-readable or paper copies. Any
related, temporary electronic storage should be for purposes of making copies
only.
- Subject to the current database-specific Terms
and Conditions, upon
executing an ARCHIVE command, a user has permission
to store the information indefinitely within the
user's organization on a single machine/server or
intranet for purposes of electronic access by the
specified number of relevant users associated with
the same organization.* Each of the specified users
is authorized to make one copy of the record for
his/her own use.
- Authorized archiving of stored data does not include any subsequent copying
of said data within the organization. Redistribution of archived data to
users other than authorized archival users must be reported through the
Dialog online REDIST command.
- Authorized redistribution and/or archiving requires the intent not to
create a derivative work.
- Information Brokerage firms may make and provide one copy of information
obtained from Dialog services to a single customer outside
the Information Brokerage firm, provided that the Information Brokerage
retains the copyright notice on the material. Additionally, a single customer
of the Information Brokerage may request redistribution within his/her organization.
Such redistribution must be reported directly by the Information Brokerage
firm into the Dialog service so that the proper reporting/pricing will occur.
- These guidelines are subject to change from time to time at the discretion
of Dialog and superseding guidelines are effective upon
publication.
*Organization is defined by the specific legal entity listed in the customer
block in the Dialog Standard Service Agreement, including
its employees, divisions, and branch offices.
