Support : Dialog Search Aids : Dialog PROFILE Feature: Quick Reference Card

Dialog PROFILE Feature
Quick Reference Card

Some features of the Dialog system can be customized to fit your searching needs through the PROFILE feature. Any of the SET commands offered by Dialog, except SET PASSWORD (your alias password is stored indefinitely until you cancel it), can be stored in your PROFILE. Once a SET command is stored in your PROFILE, it is executed automatically each time you logon and remains in effect for the duration of your search session, unless you turn it off.

Creating Your Profile [see example]

  1. Enter the EDIT command alone; you will be placed in Input Mode.

  2. Enter your first SET command and press the <ENTER> key; you will be prompted to input the next line of your PROFILE at the INPUT: prompt.

  3. Enter additional SET commands at each INPUT: prompt. If you are entering a SET SUBACCT command, it must appear as the last line of your PROFILE. When you are finished entering SET commands, press the <ENTER> key at the INPUT: prompt to return to Edit Mode.

  4. Enter SAVE PROFILE at the EDIT: prompt. Your PROFILE is now stored and will be automatically invoked each time you logon.
Viewing Your Profile

Use the RECALL PROFILE command to display online your current PROFILE.

Editing Your Profile

Use the EDIT PROFILE command to enter the online Editor; from there you can make changes to your PROFILE by using the edit commands.

Releasing Your Profile

Use the RELEASE PROFILE command to cancel your customized PROFILE and restore the system defaults.

More Information...

A full list of SET commands can be found on the SET COMMAND Quick Reference Card or in the Pocket Guide to Dialog or in Successful Searching with Dialog Command Language.
