More Files Enabled with Thesaurus Mapping Feature on DataStarWeb

Thesaurus mapping provides an easy way to take advantage of controlled vocabulary and special indexing and keywords used in individual databases. Previously, thesaurus mapping was available only for large biomedical files.

Now additional databases have been enabled with the Thesaurus mapping feature on DataStarWeb:

  • Engineering files: Inspec® (INSP), Ei Compendex® (COMP/COZZ) and NTIS: National Technical Information Service (NTIS).

  • Scientific and other databases: Current Contents® (CBIB), SciSearch® (SCIN, SCZZ), Social SciSearch® (SSCI) and Dialog Global Reporter (REPO).

  • Heathcare databases: King's Fund (KFND) and DH-DATA: Health Administration, Medical Toxicology & Environmental Health (DHSS).

The Thesaurus Mapping feature links free text terms to the most relevant controlled vocabulary. DataStar maps the descriptor terms in the documents and presents them in order of relevance. This feature is particularly useful if free text terms do not retrieve any relevant hits, or if you are unfamiliar with the terminology or descriptor terms in the Thesaurus.
