PsycINFO® (File 11/PSYC) Reloaded and Enhanced

APA has once again made some changes to PsycINFO (File11/PSYC) for 2004 requiring a reload of the database. None of the changes required modifications to the existing record structure, only the content as provided.

Below is a summary of the changes:

• New Document Type Values
  
  • Encyclopedia records
  • Encyclopedia entry records
• New update for the Thesaurus
  
  • New Historical Note field
  • Addition of 200 new terms
  • Mapping back of new terms to previously released PI records (1992- or 1994-present)
• New Content
  
  • 1,500 encyclopedia entries from the APA/Oxford University Press Encyclopedia of Psychology

The PsycINFO Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms, with approximately 6,000 terms, was added to Dialog DataStar earlier this year. You can now search the thesaurus with ..THES to identify appropriate terms and the ..TREE command to see a term in its tree structure(s). A new vocabulary database (YVOC), containing a directory of all the Psychological Index Terms, along with their scope notes, synonyms and background information, is also available. Thesaurus mapping for PsycINFO is enabled on DataStarWeb.
