Dialog NewsEdge Adds Live News Alerting

Dialog NewsEdge has added Live News Alerting for monitoring critical business events as they happen. This added functionality lets you define important criteria and receive notification, in the form of continuously updated headlines, as soon as news stories matching your Alerts become available.

Live News Alerting provides access to approximately 2,000 editorially filtered publications that include newswires, real-time news feeds, newspapers, and periodicals from around the world. You can track competitor announcements or regulatory updates, monitor breaking news events, review earnings announcements, financial statements, adverse drug reactions and more. Depending on the content type, several delivery frequencies are available including real-time wires, daily, weekly, and monthly publications.

News Alert Monitor

The Alert Monitor is the main interface for viewing and defining all available news Alerts, as well as viewing the fulltext of news articles. You can access the Live News Alert Monitor by clicking the "My Live News" tab within Dialog NewsEdge.

Alerts can be built using criteria that include keywords, companies, topics and publications. Each Alert is identified by an Alert code, a short name for identifying an Alert. Alerts can also have longer names, as well as descriptions.

Figure 1 shows the Alert Monitor within the My Live News tab on Dialog NewsEdge. The navigation bar to the left contains a listing of the Alert codes. The results view displays headlines and associated information related to news stories that match any of the Alerts that you have defined. The results view also contains columns displaying additional information including time, date, publication, and the Alert or Alerts with which each headline is associated (stories can match multiple Alerts filters).

Live News Alerting notifies you of important events with news stories that are sent within seconds of their availability. The integrated Web-based offering does not require the installation and support of additional software nor the maintenance of separate passwords. Using SmartTerm classification and indexing provides relevant results. And, Live News Alerting lets you monitor your Alerts without disrupting your daily workflow.
