Support : Publications : Chronolog Archives : September/October 2003 Dialog Company Profiles Enhancements In response to customer requests, Dialog has released significant enhancements to Dialog Company Profiles (DCP), a stand-alone company and industry research tool, resulting in new search forms and more robust searching features. Introduced in late 2001, Dialog Company Profiles offers one-stop access to comprehensive profiles of nearly 500,000 publicly traded and privately owned companies from 188 countries. This fully integrated resource brings together company profiles, product and brand information, rankings, company histories, chronologies, news, and trade journals for small to large companies around the world. Small companies appreciate DCP's comprehensive data and predictable subscription pricing. Top companies roll DCP out to their entire sales and business development staffs, and take advantage of enterprise features such as IP authentication and usage reporting. The consistent formatting of DCP's company profiles and the presentation of the industry lists in order of revenue make it easy to identify both key and small players in an industry. The user-friendly DCP interface provides easy access to information critical to the decision-making needs of business professionals throughout an organization, including sales, marketing, finance and management professionals. DCP also features respected indexed business content from Gale, also a Thomson business. The recent enhancements now add a more powerful search interface and additional content. New Gale Content
New Search Interface Features and Forms An improved, more powerful search interface now includes four search forms: Company, Industry, Articles and Advanced Search. (View sample)
The Company Search Form now offers users more search options, including the ability to search by product or brand. In addition, it is now easier to search companies by city or state. This is important functionality for customers using DCP to generate sales or business development leads. (View sample) The Industry Search Form lets users search by SIC or NAICS codes. A "browse" feature is provided for both SIC and NAICS to help with code selection. Also available is a search by industry description. The new Article Search Form assists searchers looking primarily for business-related articles and includes subject guide, keyword and fulltext searching. This form now provides optional search limiters, including:
Additional options include the ability to limit the search to a particular journal and to set a date range. Users can also search the subject guide, allowing them to use controlled vocabulary from indexed terms in the content sets. These features, along with the addition of the newspaper business sections as a content enhancement, make DCP a powerful search tool. The Advanced Search Form allows searching by indexed fields, and, similar to the Article Search Form, provides additional search limiters. Users can specify the content set and indexed field they would like to search. They can choose to search the content from News/Magazines, Company Profiles, Histories, Financials, Suits & Claims, etc., and then enter terms to be searched and specify an indexed field for those terms. Boolean logic allows a complex and targeted search to be executed without requiring knowledge of any command language. New Topical Links to Articles from Company Profiles When viewing articles from a search, users are now presented with topical links. A new left sidebar offers links to "Articles about this Company," when available. These topical links include journal articles, where available, on:
