Using EMTREE to Pinpoint Biomedical and Drug Subjects in EMBASE®

EMBASE (Files 72, 73) is indexed via EMTREE, an extensive life science thesaurus containing over 45,000 subject descriptor terms for drugs, diseases and various medical concepts, plus 190,000 synonyms. EMTREE is a rich repository of biomedical and drug nomenclature; its synonyms include drug generic names in various national nomenclatures, drug and device trade names, chemical names, laboratory codes, variants of disease names, CAS® Registry Numbers, and MeSH® subject headings from the National Library of Medicine. To access EMTREE online, use the EXPAND command with parentheses around a term to identify the correct subject heading and its synonyms; e.g., ?e (valium) leads to diazepam.
