Annual Reload of CANCERLIT® and ToxFile
CANCERLIT (File 159/CANC) and ToxFile (File 156/TOXL) are reloaded every year to include the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) revisions to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®) and to introduce new MeSH terms previously not used in MEDLINE®. Citations going back to the earliest records from 1966 are updated wherever necessary with the new MeSH headings.
The following changes that apply to both Dialog and DataStar:
- MeSH changes in 2002: A total of 847 new descriptors were added, 185 descriptors were replaced with more up-to-date terminology, 2,041 see references (i.e. entry terms) were added, and 47 descriptors were deleted.
- Full author names: The National Library of Medicine (NLM) and affiliated organizations, as well as National Cancer Institute (NCI), are starting to provide full author names for some articles, including some dated before 2002.
On Dialog, the following additional search features were implemented with this year's reload:
These are new fields:
- Named Person (/NM) identifies a person mentioned in a record. It is searchable and displayable. Applies to CANCERLIT only.
- Main Citation Owner (OA=) identifies the organization responsible for the citation. It is searchable and displayable.
- Other Citation Owner (OB=) identifies organizations other than NLM that have contributed to the citation. It is searchable and displayable.
- Abstract Source (OC=) identifies the organization that contributed the abstract of the citation. It is searchable and displayable.
- Mission Name (MI=) identifies the space flight mission (e.g. STS-70, APOLLO-SOYUZ PROJECT, etc.) included in the NASA/Spaceline records which are now available in MEDLINE. MI is searchable and displayable.
- Record Identifier (RI=) is an 8-digit ID number for non-NLM records like records from NASA/Spaceline. RI is searchable and displayable.
- Molecular Sequence Databank Number (SQ=). It is searchable and displayable. Applies to CANCERLIT only.
Additional data is available for these existing fields: Abstract, Identifier, Author, Corporate Source, Note. There are new Journal Codes in the JC field.
The Named Person field (/NM) is no longer searchable with /NA in ToxFile (File 156).
On DataStar, the following additional search features and enhancements were implemented with this year's reload:
- ToxFile (TOXL) now offers daily updating for both InProcess and Completed records, as does MEDLINE.
- Comments and corrections: beginning in 2002, the CM paragraph may have fuller notes on the type of comment available.
- Information Provider (IP) paragraph is provided where the originator of the information is not the NLM.
- Keywords (in DE): Some articles provided by organizations other than the NLM have their own keywords. These are listed in the DE paragraph with a heading "Keywords." Note that these are not part of the MeSH system and will not be retrieved when doing a MeSH search.
- Additional information supplied by non-NLM providers (in AB): this might include information on space flight missions, details of grants associated with a project, names of investigators, etc. This additional information is listed at the end of the abstract in AB.
Contact your nearest Dialog Knowledge Center if you have any questions in regard to the CANCERLIT and ToxFile reloads.
