CDSR: Enhancement and Alerts Now Available

The latest update of Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) on DataStar, loaded in late July 2002, has incorporated an enhancement that allows customers to identify reports that are either new with the update or have undergone major revision since the previous update. On DataStarClassic, these can be identified with the following quick-codes: "NEW=YES" and "REVISED=YES" respectively. On DataStarWeb and DataStar for Windows, new and revised documents can be selected by clicking the checkboxes or by selecting from the list of search terms (See Figure 1).

This enhancement also means that, for the first time, Alerts are now possible in CDSR. For example, to retrieve details of new and revised HIV-related studies, set up an Alert as soon as the database is updated with the following search strategy:

      1_: HIV.TI. AND (NEW=YES OR REVISED=YES)

Note that CDSR gives you access to abstracts only; it is these abstracts that will be included in the Alerts. Accessing the database via DataStarWeb also provides customers with access to the full PDF reviews which can be as many as 100+ pages in length. Alert profiles will be charged at CHF10.00/US$6.91 each. CDSR is updated on a quarterly basis.

The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews is the premier resource in Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), one of the fastest growing areas of medical interest. It is the result of the collaborative effort of researchers, healthcare professionals, consumers, and others who share an interest in generating reliable, up-to-date evidence relevant to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of particular health problems or groups of problems. Refer to the BASE database for a fuller description of CDSR.
