NewsLine Search Tips
Profound® NewsLine presents the same comprehensive collection of current information as NewsRoom on Dialog and DataStar. Take advantage of these tips for searching NewsLine to help you get exactly the news you need.
| Focus on the title or lead paragraph |
When search terms appear in key sections such as title or lead paragraph, it is usually a good indication that the story is very relevant.
For title searches, enter terms in the Titles: search box. |

For lead paragraph searches, type your search terms in the Free Text: box preceded by the THESTART& operator. |

| Increase precision with proximity connectors |
Searching for terms that appear close together is a good way to ensure that the terms are discussed in relation to one another in the story. The NEAR operator [&], achieved using the ampersand between two words, will retrieve articles with the terms within ten words of each other. To search for a phrase using &, use quotation marks around the phrase.
Add a colon plus a number [:nn] to specify how many words can come between the terms, 1 to 50. The NEAR operator can be used in the Titles: or Free Text: search boxes. |

| Use specialized subject indexing |
NewsLine stories have been enhanced, using InfoSort® technology, with indexing for Market Sectors (e.g., markets and products), Scopes (e.g., sales, market share, etc.) and geographic location. View the online thesaurus to choose the right Market Sector or Scope terms to ensure you get exactly the information you need.

To display search results in context:
- 1. Click the
button next to the Market Sectors or Locations or Scopes search box.
- 2. Browse the thesaurus terms for your areas of interest.
- 3. Click
to select the term for searching.

| Review results in context |
Use the context function, available in NewsLine, to quickly scan a number of articles for relevance. Only the lines containing your search term appear.

To display search results in context:
- 1. On the results page, click the checkbox to the left of the titles to be examined.
- 2. Scroll to the top of the page, click the Context radio button.
