Dialog OnDisc Extends Collection of Scientific Research Databases

Dialog is extending the collection of scientific research databases that are made available to customers for a fixed subscription cost. Two key research databases—Food Science & Technology Abstracts and GeoRef--will be made available to customers using a Web interface with the Dialog@Site solution for a fixed annual subscription charge. Customers will have the choice of loading the databases locally on their intranet behind their firewall for total security or remotely via one of the Dialog@Site servers if Internet access is preferred. The Dialog@Site interface is fully customizable offering customers the opportunity to choose the branding and/or look and feel appropriate to their users.

Food Science and Technology Abstracts™ (FSTA) is the largest and most respected collection of food science, food technology and food-related human nutrition abstracts. It is compiled by a team of specialist scientists dedicated to producing a database of consistent high quality and timeliness. It currently contains over 580,000 records - with approximately 2000 new records added every month. FSTA covers journal articles (approximately 80%) plus patents, theses, standards, legislation, books, reviews and conference proceedings. IFIS works hard to include those sources which are not always easy to obtain making it a key resource for industrial, academic and governmental users. FSTA keeps users up to date in all areas which relate to food and beverages including the latest research, new product development, quality assurance and control, food safety, food composition, regulations, and consumer trends.

GeoRef, the database of the American Geological Institute (AGI), covers worldwide technical literature on geology and geophysics. GeoRef corresponds to the print publications: Bibliography and Index of North American Geology, Bibliography of Theses in Geology, Geophysical Abstracts, Bibliography and Index of Geology Exclusive of North America, and the Bibliography and Index of Geology. GeoRef organizes and indexes papers from over 13,000 serials and other publications representative of the interests of the 29 professional geological and earth science societies that are members of the AGI.

GeoRef is international in coverage with about 40% of the indexed publications originating in the United States and the remainder from outside the U.S. Publications of international organizations represent about 7% of the file. The database includes current coverage of over 3,500 journals as well as books and book chapters, conference papers, government publications, theses, dissertations, reports, maps, and meeting papers.
