A Letter from Roy Martin
Dialog President and CEO

Dear Colleagues,

The past year has proven to be one of great success for Dialog -- success in refocusing on our core customers — corporate librarians, information professionals and professional researchers, success in strategically addressing pricing issues, and success in introducing products, services and content that would contribute to your achievements.

In June we announced a plan for new pricing initiatives for the next two years. We made the plan a reality with the launch of connect-time, the announcement of new pricing plans and the completion of a series of technical projects designed to make DialUnits more consistent across the Dialog® platforms. We will continue to implement pricing initiatives as we create a palette of options and introduce alternate charging mechanisms in our efforts to correlate price levels with customer value.

In 2001, we also built on our traditional strengths while leveraging the power of our brands, global reach and leading-edge customization tools for the Internet. To make specific data more easily accessible, we added several interfaces and products, including Dialog1, Dialog IQ and Dialog Company Profiles. We also overhauled Profound®, enhancing its performance, improving its usability and increasing our ability to add new content.

To our content, we added significant information databases such as Financial Times and its online partner FT.com, Australian newspapers and periodicals published by John Fairfax Holdings Limited, and the complete collection of IDC technology business reports and newsletters. With the addition of NewsEdge and its real-time news content, we are well-prepared to serve you in all segments of the online professional information market.

We are extremely pleased with the outstanding successes of 2001 and look forward to an even better 2002. We intend to make changes that will continue to strengthen your trust in Dialog, further energize our relationship with you, and make Dialog an even more valued partner in your daily work.

Your relationship with Dialog in 2001 is truly appreciated and we look forward to adding greater value to you and your business in 2002, as we look forward to our best year in history.

Best wishes for a healthy and prosperous New Year,

Roy M. Martin, Jr., President and CEO
