Company Directories

Dialog increased its already comprehensive collection of company directories in 2001 to include the Harris Business Profiler (File 537) and three new databases from Mergent™.

The Harris Business Profiler (File 537) features profiles of more than 552,000 U.S. firms, including all manufacturers and all non-manufacturing companies with 20 or more employees, the largest and most concentrated group of purchasers in the economy.

Mergent has provided Dialog with three new, exciting databases: Mergent™ Company Profiles (File 555), Mergent™ Company Snapshots (File 556), and Mergent™ Company News Reports (File 557). The Mergent databases, formerly known as Moody's, contain descriptive, financial, and background information on approximately 9,000 companies of high investor interest, and current, comprehensive coverage of business news. Rich textual profiles including history, business, properties, subsidiaries, and a listing of executives are combined with detailed current and historical financial information.

Company Financial Data

Company financial data on Dialog was further enhanced in 2001 through the addition of comprehensive new sources.

The Disclosure Database (File 101) is an invaluable source for U.S. public company information, including detailed financial data and key ratios. Current financial details and historical data for up to 10 years and up to 12 quarters are provided.

Extel Financial Cards from Thomson Financial (File 500/label EXTL) has undergone extensive reformatting. The Extel files cover over 8,000 companies worldwide; over 5,000 of the companies are located in the U.K., and the other 3,000 are located throughout Europe, Australia, North America, and the Pacific Rim. Extel provides 30 key financial elements that can be searched in local currency (or Euros) and have been converted into U.S. dollars so that companies can be compared quickly and effectively using a standard currency. A companion file, Extel News Cards (File 501), provides comprehensive news about any company represented in File 500. No news stories are included in EXTL.

Worldbox - Swiss Company Financial Records on DataStar (label SWFR) is an invaluable source of financial data on Swiss and Liechenstein registered companies. SWFR is exclusive to DataStar and contains details on all Swiss companies who disclose information, together with their parent and subsidiaries worldwide. As there are no legal disclosure requirements in Switzerland, other than for public companies, much of the data in SWFR is collected through extensive research and interviews, providing for high quality accurate information.

Investment Research

Challenging times for business people and investors call for comprehensive and authoritative information resources.

Investext (File 545/label INVE) provides the full text of over two million company, industry, and geographic research reports written by analysts at more than 600 leading investment banks, brokerage houses, and consulting firms worldwide.

In 2001 Dialog made the full collection of Investext reports available in PDF format (File 745). With the availability of the Investext reports in PDF format, new reports have been added, more than doubling the content of the database, expanding the collection to include charts, graphs, and tables, as well as the complete text, where available.

Market Research

Over the past few years, Dialog has aggressively added new databases to its market research collection. We provide market research reports in their entirety, or by individual page, offering customers the flexibility to target their requests to filter out the most salient facts to meet their information needs.

In 2001 Dialog added more market research files providing global breadth and depth of coverage to its already abundant collection.

IBISWorld Market Research (File 753) is of particular value in tracking the latest information on industries in Australia, Indonesia, Taiwan and the United States.

Reuters Business Insight (File 759/label: RBIR) provides complete text reports in a "briefing" style. These reports give a succinct view of the focus market providing valuable data for decision and policy making. Reports cover the following market sectors: consumer goods, energy, finance, health care, e-commerce, and technology.

In 2001 Profound also added the following sources to its business and market research information on ResearchLine.
