Two New Sessions Added to the Dialog Applications Briefings Series
Two new Applications Briefings have
been added to Dialog's training offerings: Cosmetics Industry
and Medical/Health Devices. The Applications Briefings Series
provides short (1 1/2 hours) sessions on topics of specific
interest to researchers in areas such as biotechnology, aerospace,
the environment, and more.
These sessions contain several important elements:
- Focused content covers relevant information about all aspects of the
specific industry, such as forecasts, trends, intellectual property
data, reviews and analyses, and company information.
- Key sources encompass the broad range of Dialog resources, such as
newsletters, newswires, and newspapers, industry publications, intellectual
property, legislation and regulations, and conference and consumer
publications. In addition, specific databases in each of these areas
are mentioned so that the user is familiar with the vast array of
information available to them in Dialog databases.
- Sample Applications provide examples of specific information
that users in a subject area (e.g., environment or cosmetics) will
be interested in obtaining. The searches include sample topics,
as well as notes explaining the techniques used in each search.
Searches can serve as models for the users' own topics. All of the
examples are conducted using DialogWeb®, Dialog's
web-based interface; however, the strategies can be used to search
Dialog Classic as well. A sampling of applications for the Environmental
Issues Applications Briefing includes:
| | complying with legislation and
regulations |
| | marketing by-products of industrial processes |
| | locating experts on an environmental issue |
| | keeping abreast of consumer-driven environmental problems |
- Exercises are a part of each briefing. They reinforce techniques that users have just learned in the sample applications.
Applications Briefings currently available include the following:
- Environmental Issues
- Cosmetics Industry
- Medical/Health Devices
- Aerospace and Defense
- The Business and Science of Biotechnology
