Kompass Databases Now Completely Reloaded with New Classification Names/Codes

Over the past few months Dialog has reloaded the Kompass databases with a completely revised classification system of product names and codes. The Kompass classification system is revised annually to stay abreast of new technologies and industries. The latest classification system, called WF.3 by Kompass, features very detailed 7-digit codes in English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.

The Kompass files on Dialog include:

  • File 584, Kompass USA
  • File 585, Kompass Middle East/Africa/Mediterranean
  • File 590, Kompass Western Europe
  • File 592, Kompass Asia/Pacific
  • File 593, Kompass Central/Eastern Europe
  • File 594, Kompass Canada

The Kompass files on DataStar include:

  • KPEU, Kompass Europe
  • KPWO, Kompass Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Americas

Viewing the Codes

Complete listings of the new codes and corresponding product names can be found in all languages at the following address: http://support.dialog.com/searchaids/dialog/kompasscodes/

These code listings are provided at the 5-digit level since the 7-digit level is extremely long and detailed. However, you can view the entire code list online with scope notes in English by using the EXPAND command as shown in Figure 1.

To view the Product Names on Dialog in the various languages, use the individual product name indexes as indicated below:
