Support : Publications : Chronolog Archives : March 2001 Kompass Databases Now Completely Reloaded with New Classification Names/Codes Over the past few months Dialog has reloaded the Kompass databases with a completely revised classification system of product names and codes. The Kompass classification system is revised annually to stay abreast of new technologies and industries. The latest classification system, called WF.3 by Kompass, features very detailed 7-digit codes in English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. The Kompass files on Dialog include:

Viewing the Codes Complete listings of the new codes and corresponding product names can be found in all languages at the following address: http://support.dialog.com/searchaids/dialog/kompasscodes/ These code listings are provided at the 5-digit level since the 7-digit level is extremely long and detailed. However, you can view the entire code list online with scope notes in English by using the EXPAND command as shown in Figure 1. Notice in the EXPAND above, that the product name BEERS appears at the 5-digit level with the code PC=21300, while the more specific terms detailing different kinds of beers follow below with the more specific 7-digit codes. |
