Support : Publications : Chronolog Archives : March 2001 New Patent Courses Introduced Anew course series — Developing Patent Research Expertise — is now available at a location near you. This series is divided into four courses. Whether you are looking at your competitors' patents to see what products they are developing, searching for prior art for patent prosecution, checking the legal status of a patent, or just brushing up on your basic patent search skills, each of the three-hour courses in this series is tailored to meet your specific needs. Part 1: Patent Research Basics Using DialogWeb is designed for novice patent searchers or researchers who need to refresh their search skills. This course covers the most common patent searches, such as locating a patent assignee or inventor, identifying a specific class of technology, or finding a patent using the patent number. Part 2: Patent Families and Legal Status explores the importance of patent families, as well as techniques for collecting all U.S. and international family members. The workshop also discusses legal status reporting and finding this information. Part 3: Prior Art Searching illustrates how to locate prior art in the patent databases. It also highlights the wealth of information about patents found in Dialog's comprehensive collection of technical databases. Part 4: Using Patent Information for Competitive Intelligence focuses on ways companies can track a competitor's products, find patents available for licensing, monitor the competition's R&D strategies, and more. Each course contains online practice to reinforce the skills learned in the course. Depending on your search needs, you may want to take one or all of the courses in this new patent series.
