Search Solution
Intellectual Property: Beyond the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Databases

Patent, trademark and copyright searchers should remember to consult databases outside the usual scope of Dialog's Intellectual Property content. Using Dialog's business databases, users can often find information on licensing agreements, litigation, patent pending technology, and statistical information. This Search Solution will instruct you on strategies for:

1. Finding information on patent, trademark or copyright licensing agreements.

2. Finding information on patent, trademark or copyright litigation.

3. Finding information on new technologies and pending patents.

4. Finding statistical information relating to patents.

Note: In the following examples, the commands will appear on the left side in bold and discussion on the right side.

1. Finding information on patent licensing agreements involving a particular company

While INPADOC, File 345, may indicate a patent licensing agreement, File 9, Business & Industry, may offer more details on such arrangements and may give information on agreements not covered by INPADOC. The following strategy may also be adjusted to find information on trademark or copyright licensing agreements.

2. Finding information on patent litigation

In addition to licensing information, File 9, Business and Industry, also provides details about patent, trademark, and copyright
litigation, as well as news of litigation at the U.S. Federal Circuit/ Supreme Court level e.g., CT=PATENTS AND LITIGATION. File 670, LitAlert, while a great resource for Intellectual Property litigation information, only covers U.S. District Court level activity and gives little detail concerning the issues involved.

3. Finding information on new technologies and pending patents

Information on pending U.S. patents can be found in File 351, Derwent World Patents Index, only if the application has published internationally. Using Files 621, Gale Group New Product Announcements/Plus® and File 636, Gale Group Newsletter Database, you may be able to find additional information on pending patents for new technologies.
