New Dialog Course Series Introduced

Now available: Dialog's new course series Developing Dialog Searching Expertise. This series is divided into four parts, each with its own online practice and individual exercises to reinforce what is taught during the sessions.

Part 1: Fast Start Using DialogWeb

(Length: 2 hours)

Fast Start offers the new Dialog searcher the opportunity to become familiar with the DialogWeb™ search system and its databases easily and quickly. This seminar provides a brief overview of basic Dialog commands, features, and documentation.

Part 2: Intermediate

(Length: 2 hours)

Intermediate is intended for searchers who have attended Part 1, grasp the basics of the Dialog system, and want to develop their search skills further. This seminar provides guidelines for using DIALINDEX® and OneSearch® categories to select databases in the Dialog system. It illustrates the differences between DialogWeb™ and DialogClassic and uses sample searches in DialogClassic. Additional system features and techniques will help searchers select appropriate databases and locate exactly the information required to meet their search needs. Users will also learn how to keep current by setting up Alerts, Dialog's current awareness service.

Part 3: Advanced

(Length: 3 hours)

The Advanced workshop is designed to enable users to use more fully the power and sophistication of the Dialog system. The seminar highlights new commands, such as SORT/REPORT, RANK, and REPORT TITLES, additional tools for choosing databases, and tips for using the powerful indexing contained in Dialog databases.

Part 4: Power Searching

(Length: 3 hours)

Power Searching emphasizes special features and commands on Dialog. Some of the techniques covered include using the MAP command, taking advantage of the online thesauri and the EXPLODE command, and searching for numeric data.

Begin your search instruction with Parts 1 and 2. These are a must! Continue building your search expertise by completing Parts 3 and 4 as you are ready for them.

Whether you are a first-time Dialog searcher, need to brush up on your skills, or enhance your search techniques, don't delay and sign up today for one or all of these new courses.
