Finding Investment Reports in File 545, Investext®

A companion file to the Investext PDF Index (File 745) is File 545, Investext. This database contains about 40% of the entire Investext collection and is fully indexed and searchable from July 1982 forward. It includes company, industry, geographic, and topical reports. To obtain a report using DialogClassic, DialogWeb™, or DialogClassic Web, follow these steps.

Search Example: Locate information on the food industry, specifically concerning trends and forecasts.

Step 1

?begin 545

    BEGIN the appropriate file.

Step 2

?select food? and (trend? or forecast?) and sf=industry

Enter SF=INDUSTRY to restrict records to industry results only. SELECT the industry of interest and use keywords to limit to trends or forecasts about the industry.

Note: You can also limit the search to company (SF=COMPANY), geographic (SF=GEOGRAPHIC), or topical (SF=TOPICAL) reports.

Step 3

?report s1/titles

REPORT S#/TITLES will organize the pages of all reports in S1 into individual reports and provide a list with the most current report at the top of the list.

Step 4

Follow the directions within the REPORT TITLES menu. You may see an entire table of contents for a report by typing (C)ontents. If the report is lengthy, you may want to view (S)ection Headings first; then select the pages of interest.

Step 5

Display the pages on the screen by typing (D)isplay or have them sent to you by fax, e-mail, or postal delivery.
