Locating Domain Names
Summary
Domain names are an important part of an intellectual property portfolio. The Domain Names database (File 225) on Dialog can be used in conjunction with the trademark files to formulate a complete picture of your own or a competitor's intellectual property.
Domain names can be beneficial for:
- Disputes: Discover names registered in the past by opponents for disputes in UDRP, federal court, state court, WIPO.
- Trademark clearance: Review availability and uniqueness of domains prior to branding and trademark application.
- Due Diligence: Search the history of registration when dealing with mergers and acquisitions or buying domain names.
- Law Enforcement: Find correct addresses in investigations to enforce laws.
- Corporate Maintenance and Competitive Intelligence: Keep track of corporate assets, protect against non-renewal and theft; track competitors, or possible product launches.
