Setting Up A Trademark Watch

The Dialog Alerts service allows us to have a search run automatically and regularly whenever we want. Setting up Alerts will keep us informed of new trademarks.

In order to monitor a company's trademarks as Ray requested, we first must do a search using the techniques we have already learned in this course.

We'll BEGIN the search in File 226-TRADEMARKSCAN-U.S. Federal to see what trademarks Kirkbi is thinking of registering in the United States. We enter the following command in the command text box:

begin 226

Next, we search the OW= field to get all trademarks that Kirkbi will attempt to register. We will not limit the search in any other way as we want trademarks that they register, abandon, or intend to use. This will give us a good view of Kirkbi's product activity in the months to come. We enter the command as follows:

select ow=kirkbi?

Tip 6-1

Begin Databases Screenshot

We see that Kirkbi has 85 trademarks records in File 226. These are the trademarks Kirkbi has that are already in the database.

Search Tip 6-1:

We can combine UD=9999 with our search set to see the latest update for the database.

This will show us approximately how many records we will retrieve in one update.
