Using the U.S. Trademark Files
Summary
In Lesson 5, we learned to search all U.S. trademark databases: TRADEMARKSCAN—U.S. Federal (File 226) and TRADEMARKSCAN—U.S. State (File 246).
- We practiced searching Rotated Trademarks for a preliminary screening search using TR=.
- We searched for All Owners using the prefix OW=.
- We limited our search strategy to trademarks that a company "intends to use" using legal status (ST=).
As a result of our searches, we have found ways to identify products that companies intend to use in the future. We can also see where companies potentially plan to market their products by the locations where they register their trademarks.
Go on to Lesson 6 where we will see how to set up a trademark Alert.
