Refining Trademark Searches
Summary
In Lesson 4, we learned to refine searches. We tried restricting our searches to:
- all owners (OW=)
- International (IC=) and U.S. (CL=) classification codes
- the goods and services field
Using the goods and services descriptions and also the classification codes, companies can track products of their competition, identify any possible infringements of marks in the same categories, and come up with lists of marks already held in specific areas before beginning work on a new product.
Go on to Lesson 5 where we will look at searching for trademarks in the U.S. trademark databases.
