Course Description
This free, self-paced course provides you with an introduction to trademark search basics on Dialog. The seven (7) lessons in the course are designed to be completed in order. However, you may want to complete only those lessons that focus on the applications you need. You do not need to complete the course at one sitting.
- Lesson 1: Locating a Known Trademark
Illustrates the use of basic Dialog commands to conduct searches online when the name of the trademark is known. - Lesson 2: Conducting a Preliminary Screening Trademark
Search
Discusses searching the text of a trademark using the Rotated Index. - Lesson 3: Determining Trademark Ownership
Shows how to find owners in the European trademark databases. It also illustrates refining a search using legal status. - Lesson 4: Refining Trademark Searches
Discusses narrowing searches using classification codes, and goods and services descriptions. - Lesson 5: Using the U.S. Trademark Files
Illustrates techniques to search for U.S. trademarks in the state and federal trademark databases. - Lesson 6: Conducting a Trademark Watch
Identifies when and how to set up a Dialog Alert. - Lesson 7: Locating Domain Names
Illustrates how to locate current and past owners of domain names.
A wrap-up will conclude the course and identify other Dialog tools and training to help with your information needs.
Exercises throughout the course will reinforce material covered in the lessons and help you practice Dialog trademark searching. To gain the most from the course, it is important to complete the practice exercises included with each lesson. Contact the if you have questions.
Plan on spending approximately 45 minutes for each lesson, or about 4-5 hours to complete the entire course. Each lesson contains an exercise for you to complete.
