Product Code Searching (cont'd.)
Working with Codes
Some information providers, such as Gale Group and Dun & Bradstreet, have developed their own specialized product codes based on either the four-digit U.S. SIC codes or the NAICS codes. Product codes range from two- to seven-digit numbers and are arranged hierarchically.
Other databases, such as the Kompass files and PIERS, use a coding scheme developed specifically for their databases. Codes can be found online in the Dialog Product Code Finder (File 413).
We could use the Product Code Finder for this search; however, we already know from looking at the record in File 9 that the product code is 283463 for antidepressants.
TableBase (File 93) is an excellent file to use to find statistics. This database will give Bev a detailed table of statistics.
Click the Command Summary icon to see a summary of the commands we will use for this search.
We will BEGIN in File 93 and enter our SELECT statement in the command text box as follows:

By using just the prefix PC= for product code we can perform a simple search and yet get the necessary information.
