Using the databases selection tool — DIALINDEX

Above the list of databases is the command text box where I can enter my search strategy.

enter my search strategy

I will type a SELECT command followed by my search terms.

   select (multifunction and device?)/mt,ti

Tip 3-4

Now, I will click the search dialindex button to proceed. DialogWeb returns a list of all databases in MARKETFULL that have information on our topic, along with a listing of the number of "hits" (records) found in each of them.

DIALINDEX unSORTED RESULTS

Once the list is completely displayed on the screen, I can reorder it by clicking sort results. This makes it easier to see which databases have the most records on the search topic because they will appear at the top of the list.

DIALINDEX SORTED RESULTS

We can see that Frost & Sullivan has the most information on our topic.

Tip 3-5

DIALINDEX has identified databases with research reports on our topic.

Search Tip 3-4:

Dialog is not case-sensitive; search commands and terms may be entered using upper- or lower-case letters.

Example:
SELECT multifunction AND device?

select Multifunction and Device?

Search Tip 3-5:

As an alternative to the DialogWeb databases selection tool, we can also scan DIALINDEX using traditional Dialog commands.

To learn more about command searching of DIALINDEX, consult one of the How Do I...? sheets illustrating the use of DIALINDEX.
