Using the EXPAND Command (continued)

In File 72, I'll use the EXPAND command to conduct the search on the author Sugahara, then refine it to see what Sugahara has written in 1998 and 1999. Here's how it will look.

Step 1: EXPAND using the appropriate prefix and term:

e au=sugahara

Enter the command in the text box and click Submit.

EXPAND screen for au=sugahara

Step 2: SELECT the E-numbered lines that contain variations for the author Sugahara. Because I don't know which Sugahara is writing about shark-based treatment, I want to get all of the Sugahara entries listed in the database. I will choose E numbers 4-14 and enter the command in the text box:

s e4:e14

I want what Sugahara has written about shark-based treatment. I can now refine my search to include the term shark. I also want records from1998 and 1999, so I will use the prefix PY=1998:1999 to narrow the search further. My search would look like this:

s s1 and shark? and py=1998:1999

Refine Search Results

Search History screen for select e4:e14

This search limited the results to only two records. We'll use the FULL format, and click the display button to see the complete records.

From the records we can see that it looks like Sugahara is doing some interesting research. Better print out these articles for Brian. Wonder if this will prompt Brian to want more. Hope this is the last we hear from Brian for a while!
