Combining Sets

The Search History screen indicates that I have three sets of concepts. Since I want them all to appear in my search, I need to combine the Sets using the AND logical operator.

I enter the following search in the Command text box and click on the submit button.

s s1 and s2 and s3

DialogWeb Screen 3_6

A search history of all of my sets appears.

I am now ready to view some of the records from my search. I want to view Set 4, which contains the combined sets. We will look at Displaying Results in Lesson 4.

Go to the Exercises to review what you have just learned.

Learn More #2:

There are two ways to put the search strategy together:

  1. We can put all of the search terms together in one search statement. If this method is used, and we use AND and OR operators in the same search query, we must group the synonyms using parentheses.

Example: s (threat? or hazard?) and (radon or asbestos)

  2. We can create a separate set for each concept and then group the sets together.

    Examples:
    s threat? or hazard?
    s radon or asbestos
    s s1 and s2

We are using Method 2 in our search strategy.
