Using Search Commands in Dialog

BEGIN

I will use several basic commands in the Command Search option. The first one is the BEGIN command to enter the database(s) of choice.

Take a look at an example of the BEGIN command below:

Command Example When to Use It
BEGIN
B
begin 9
b 9
b 9,16 current
b businessnews
Use BEGIN with a file number to specify the database(s) to be searched.
Use CURRENT to restrict a search to the current year plus previous year in the database specified.

In Lesson 2 you looked at the description of File 9, BUSINESS & INDUSTRY database. It appears to have the kind of information we need for this topic.

From the Dialog Command Search page, I will type in the BEGIN command and add the CURRENT qualifier following. This allows me to search only the current year plus one back year and narrows the search at the beginning of the search. Tip 3-1

Search Tip 3-1:

In Lesson 1, we began our search by clicking Databases and using DIALINDEX to identify appropriate databases for our search.

From the DIALINDEX Results page, clicking the BEGIN DATABASES button automatically inserts the BEGIN command into the Command text box.
