Search Scenario
The course that you will take revolves around a real-life scenario:
Sharon Seward, the boss, has hired Ric Crane, to be her research assistant. Sharon is a researcher for a pharmaceutical company—BioTekniques, and has worked in drug development research for over 10 years. She is inexperienced, however, in searching drug development pipeline databases online.
That's where Ric comes in. Ric Crane is an information professional with a science background who is an expert Dialog searcher in the area of pharmaceutical information, specifically finding information about R&D drug development stages.
The boss is interested in vatalanib, a drug being studied for the treatment of cancer. In five of the six lessons, you will look at one of the major pipeline databases on Dialog and follow the thought processes of the researcher, Ric, as he finds comprehensive information about vatalanib at the request of his boss. In addition, Ric will explain the details of the Dialog records, as well as provide insights into the stages of drug development.
