Then try logging on to DialogWeb and performing the requested search for Quuestion 2. Remember, you will need to logon using the practice (ONTAP) user id and password provided in order to search at no cost.

  1. Write out the search statement to retrieve the following:

    1. Japanese application number 252818, filed in 1998 (The country code for Japan is JP).
    2. Austrian application number 812364, filed in 1981 (The country code for Austria is AT).
    3. Great Britain application number 8321223, filed in 1983 (The country code for Great Britain is GB).
  1. Use the ONTAP CLAIMS database, File 279, to find:

    1. a patent with the U.S. application number 214041.

There are two ways to put the search strategy together:

  1. We can put all of the search terms together in one search statement. If this method is used, and we use AND and OR operators in the same search query, we must group the synonyms using parentheses.

     Example: s (threat? or hazard?) and (radon or asbestos)

  2. We can create a separate set for each concept and then group the sets together.

    Examples: s threat? or hazard?
    s radon or asbestos
    s s1 and s2
