Lesson 1: Understanding Dialog Bluesheets
Objectives
In this lesson, you will learn to:
- Identify parts of Dialog Bluesheets
- Understand the field labels used on the Bluesheet
In this lesson we'll start with information that is of interest to us as employees of Cruz, Tilley, Weeks, and Associates. A major client has asked us to do some research on a patent that they are interested in.
Throughout this course, an attorney at the firm who is representing several of our clients will have information requests for us about patents. In the process of looking for this information, we'll take a look at the tools that are available on Dialog to help us find the information our client wants.
Below is a request that I got from the attorney who is working on this project. This request is typical of those that you might be working on.
Introduction
Teri -
One of the marketing analysts from Outdoor Toys, Inc., a client I deal with regularly, has asked me to find out about a patent he saw in a news article he read recently.
The invention called the Woosh looks similar to a technology they are working on. Here is the patent number: 4,944,707.
From the article, it seems that the patent was filed in the United States. I'd like anything you can find on it ASAP.
Thx,
Brian
Although I don't have much time to respond to this request, there are still some things to consider before I conduct the actual search online.
In this lesson, I will show you how I would get ready to answer Brian's request — in other words, the process I would go through.
So, let's begin. Go to the next page to see my preliminary search considerations.
