Cannes, France, February 17 -- Visto Corporation, the leading global provider of personal and corporate wireless e-mail and PIM solutions to mobile operators, today announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, a major expansion targeting customers, regional presence, staff and handset choice in 2005.
At the forefront of the expansion is a doubling of Visto's paid customer base in the first half of the year, passing 500,000 in the process.
To ensure the industry's widest possible choice of handsets to support push-based email and Visto's market leading ConstantSyncT technology, the company also confirmed a sweeping handset development programme that would extend the ability to support automatic updates of email, contacts and calendar to more than 50 smart mobile terminals in the next six months.
Visto also continues to offer support for mid and low-end phones using WAP, IMAP and SyncML which gives it by far the industry's broadest capability in terms of devices and operating systems. However, the company told analysts and delegates at the Congress that it intends using its patented technology advantage to extend push mobile email choice further than ever before.
With new offices in Japan and further Asian expansion planned, Visto Chairman, President and CEO Brian Bogosian confirmed the company's commitment to invest in the support of global roll-out of operator services
"We will deliver on our vision of becoming the leading global provider of push mobile email and personal information not only through partnerships with leading operators, but also through world-class support on the ground and an unprecedented choice of handsets," said Bogosian.
"Our service superiority is protected by more than 20 patents, and our global reach is now second-to-none.
"It is a simple vision - more support and more handsets equals more operators and more customers," he explained.
Visto also used the Congress to confirm its support for the new Nokia 6630 3G handset and to demonstrate, for the first time, the Visto Mobile platform and ConstantSync technology running over 3G.
Using ConstantSync, Visto is able to offer continuous over the air synchronization of email, contacts and calendar information between email applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, POP, IMAP and mobile handsets. ConstantSync removes the need for any cradle based synchronisation and instead automatically and constantly updates information wirelessly.
Visto's COO, Jean Tripier confirmed that Visto is not confining its support to business style phones with PDA functionality but is also supporting consumer-friendly phones.
"We do not believe that the desire to communicate via email from a mobile phone is exclusive to executives- there is a larger market of business and personal users who would welcome instant access to email on the move," said Tripier.
"However, there is no doubt that these users will not compromise on device size or battery life and will want a wide choice of smart, low cost, multi-purpose handsets. They are unlikely to be attracted solely by niche market models with specialist functionality," he added.
