(Redwood Shores, CA - April 28, 2004)– Visto Corporation (www.visto.com), the leading provider of personal and corporate mobile messaging solutions to wireless operators for the broadest set of mobile device platforms, announced today it has filed papers in court in Marshall, Texas seeking to extend the scope of its patent infringement action against Seven Networks, Inc. to include four of Visto's additional patents.
Visto asserts that Seven Networks, Inc. is infringing six of its patents, including the two Visto patents that were originally asserted in September of 2003. The four patents added to the legal action are: U.S. Patent No. 6,131,116, entitled "System and Method for Globally Accessing Computer Services," U.S. Patent No. 5,961,590, entitled "System and Method for Synchronizing Electronic Mail Between a Client Site and a Central Site," U.S. Patent No. 5,968,131, entitled "System and Method for Securely Synchronizing Multiple Copies of a Workspace Element in a Network," and U.S. Patent No. 6,708,221, entitled "System and Method for Globally and Securely Accessing Unified Information in a Computer Network."
"Visto continues to put considerable resources into developing unique technologies that are key to the secure synchronization of data, and which support Visto's stature in the mobile messaging market," said Brian Bogosian, Chairman, President and CEO of Visto. "Similarly, we will deploy considerable resources to ensure that our laboriously created intellectual property is respected. We believe that Seven has infringed on several of our patents, including our most recently granted one, and we will aggressively pursue any misuse of our intellectual property by Seven or any other companies and individuals," he said.
Visto holds a total of nine U.S. patents relating to the storage, access, translation and synchronization of data, all technologies required for easy, secure mobile data access. The ninth patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,708,221 -- granted March 16, 2004 -- describes a mechanism for secure remote access to a corporation's data. Internationally, Visto holds issued patents in China, Israel and Singapore and has other patents pending in Europe, Japan and numerous other countries worldwide.
