(Redwood Shores, CALIF., September 17, 2003) – Visto Corporation (www.visto.com), the leading provider of personal and corporate mobile access solutions that are easy to install, administer and use, today announced that it has purchased the intellectual property and technology assets of Jarna Corporation of Menlo Park, California. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Jarna’s Mobile Messaging Suite (MMS) enables real-time, secure wireless access to email, contacts, and calendar information from Novell GroupWise, LDAP and other corporate groupware systems across multiple devices including RIM BlackBerry, Palm, Handspring, PocketPC and J2ME handhelds. Visto will use this technology to enhance and complement its own mobility solutions to enterprises and wireless operators.
Visto earlier this year announced that it closed $50 million in financing to accelerate new product development, expand its sales and marketing infrastructure, and acquire companies that complement the company’s business and technology strategy. Visto merged with ViAir in June, a Seattle-based company providing carrier-grade wireless email solutions.
“The Jarna acquisition is another step in Visto’s strategy to establish market leadership through unique product vision and a proven ability to execute,” said Brian Bogosian, chairman, president and CEO of Visto. “Customers will begin to see the output from the Jarna acquisition in early 2004 through a series of significant solution enhancements from us, including expanded corporate data and device support.”
“Visto has a clearly stated, sensible strategy for leading
the wireless market in data mobility,” said Eugene Signorini,
senior analyst at the Yankee Group. They have executed well to date,
and the Jarna technology fits soundly into their roadmap for meeting
market demands in 2004.
