Identify Particular Classes of Copyrighted Works?
TOPIC: Registrations can be limited to particular classes of copyrighted works. All registrations and renewals are assigned a two-letter Class (CL=) which is also used as the first two characters of the registration number, for example: MW - Mask Works - electronic circuitry products (such as semiconductor chips). Some registration numbers also have a third letter "U" which designates the work as "unpublished."
Library of Congress Retrieval Codes (RC=) categorize the materials deposited, for example: A - Sound Recordings with Non-dramatic Textual Works (covers both the sound recording and the underlying work).
In this example you have been given the title of a song. This is a musical work and you want the initial registration or renewals. You are going to limit the search using the Library of Congress Retrieval Code and the Class Code.
Note: To see all Library of Congress Retrieval Codes, EXPAND RC= and for Class Codes EXPAND CL=.
