Locate Copyright Records Owned by Someone Other Than the Author?
TOPIC: You may want to check for new registrations/renewals of the works of a particular author or company. U.S. Copyrights (File 120) provides access to registration details for all active copyright and mask-work registrations or renewals granted by the U.S. Copyright Office from January 1, 1978 to the present. The database is a fast screening tool for checking the ownership and registration status of a particular work, as well as a particular individual's or entity's portfolio of registered works.
In this example you want to find copyrights authored by the famous children's author Dr. Seuss which he no longer owns. Note in this case that some of the copyrights were filed using Suess' real name Geisel. Thus, you must check both names to retrieve a comprehensive list.
