Find Drug Sales Data by Class in Pharmaceutical Company Files?

TOPIC: Pharmaceutical company reports on Dialog provide key sales data. IMS Company Profiles (Files 449/984*) from IMS Health, and ESPICOM Pharmaceutical and Medical Company Profiles (File 510), are examples.

IMS Company Profiles examines annually the internal make-up of key pharmaceutical companies worldwide, including generic, biotechnology and drug-delivery companies. Each profile analyzes the critical components of a pharmaceutical company, providing a clear assessment of the relative strengths and weaknesses of a company's business strategy. A search for a company yields one profile comprised of several records, one or more for each section. Sections are identified in the SE= field, e.g., SE=FINANCIAL DATA: THERAPY CLASS.

ESPICOM Pharmaceutical and Medical Company Profiles contains highly detailed, full-text analyses of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Each company profile is compiled into a report. Each record is a section or page from a report. Typical applications for File 510 include: tracking product introductions, following new technologies, obtaining annual sales figures by region, monitoring product introductions, watching R&D and development cycles, and monitoring approvals and clearances.

In this application we'll conduct the search in IMS Company Profiles. A search strategy for the other database is also shown below.

Select the heading related to financial data for therapy class and click view Full format

To search ESPICOM, use the following search strategy:

VISUAL EXPAND MT=PFIZER (Company name in the Main title (MT=) of a report)
Check appropriate entries and click Select

Follow the menu

Note: the REPORT TITLES command allows you to view the sections and tables of contents of multi-page reports and choose just the pages you wish to display.

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN File 449 to search IMS Company Search. 2. Visual EXPAND (VE) the company name on the Main Title (MT=) field. 3. Check the appropriate entry pertaining to the company of interest and click Select.
4. Visual RANK the Section Name (SE) field. Check the appropriate entry pertaining to sales by therapy class and click VIEW FULL.
