Find Peer-reviewed Studies in Biomedical Literature for a Specific Drug and Indication?
TOPIC: In this example, using two biomedical databases MEDLINE® (File 154) and EMBASE® (File 72), you want to find recent human research studies in English for the drug Baclofen, a drug used for spasticity and pain. MEDLINE® is a major source of biomedical literature. EMBASE® also contains biomedical information with a focus on drug literature. Both databases have their own thesaurus to help in locating search terms.

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN 154 and 72, databases containing biomedical and drug literature.
2. SELECT the drug name and disease limited to the title (/TI) and descriptors (/DE).
3. Limit the set to human subjects (/human) and English language records (/eng) from 2005 (/2005).

4. Eliminate records related to “cerebral palsy.”
5. Remove duplicate records (RD) when searching more than one database.

6. TYPE S5 in Format 6 and use the FROM EACH command to see the first two records from each database.
7. Click Links > Display > Full Record to see the entire record.
You can click Links > Toxicology to retrieve toxicology literature for the CAS Registry Number.
