Find Statistical Information on Patents?

TOPIC: Patent, trademark and copyright searchers should remember to consult databases outside the usual scope of Dialog's Intellectual Property content. Using Dialog's business databases, users can often find information on licensing agreements, litigation, patent pending technology, and statistical information.

TableBase (File 93), is an excellent resource for finding statistical information on companies, products, brands, markets, countries and demographics. It is an essential stop for anyone who needs statistics on patents. Not only do the records contain tables of facts and figures, but the originating article as well, when available. Excellent indexing and annotated titles make this database extremely user friendly.

In this example, you can find out which companies globally hold the most patents.

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN File 93 to search TableBase. 2. SELECT the main topic on the Title (/TI) field. 3. SELECT Set 1 (S1) and Document Type (DT) = RANKING. DT=RANKING finds all records about the top or leading or highest rankings. Combined with S1, the second set includes all records showing rankings regarding patents.
4. TYPE a sampling of records in Format 8, which gives Table Title, Source, Publication Date and Indexing. 5. Click Links at the top of the record you want to view in more detail, in this example Record 1. 6. Then click Display > Type Full Record. Notice that you can also type specific fields you want. Note: Some records have been omitted from this display.
Note the FULL record contains a table of companies that have been granted patents.
It also includes the original article where the table occurred, along with publication information. Note: Some of the article is omitted from this display.
