Find Out Who the Competition Is for a Specific Company by Identifying Who Is Citing Their Patents?

TOPIC: Looking at the patents your competitor is citing can help you find out about new products your competitor is developing. The number of patents a company cites often is extensive. A Patent that has been issued subsequent to the original patent and that lists the original patent as a cited patent is called a “citing patent.”

Use U.S. Patents Fulltext (File 654) for an inexpensive way to see who is citing a company’s patents. In this example, you will search for patents of companies that have cited patents of Amgen, a pharmaceutical company, to find out who Amgen’s competition is.
