Use the Product Code Finder to Locate Product Codes?
TOPIC: Because of variations in names of products, it is often easier and more comprehensive to search using a product code. The Dialog Product Code Finder™ (File 413) is designed to locate product codes (i.e. SIC, NAICS, etc.) in Dialog databases. Using File 413, you can quickly identify files that contain product formation and the appropriate codes to use for searching and view them in a preformatted table.
For this example we want to find the product code for interferometers and search a few databases for information on the product.

HOW TO...
1. BEGIN File 413, Dialog Product Code Finder.
2. SELECT the equipment for which you want to find the code.
Note the three question marks (e.g., interferomet???) to indicate the keyword, plus three additional letters. |

3. Use the REPORT command to retrieve a preformatted report containing the product name, code, file number and number of records.
4. Select a few items to move into databases and see some records.
5. Enter YES to save the items numbers selected to a SearchSave. You will automatically search the files you chose.
Once you create your SearchSave and answer Yes the SearchSave is automatically run in the databases you have chosen. |

6. REMOVE DUPLICATES (RD) to keep unique records only.
7. Narrow the search further using keywords.
Again, truncation (???) is used in place of three additional letters. |

8. TYPE a few records FROM EACH database, using Formats 8 to see descriptors and K to see a window of 30 words around the keywords.
Note: If you wish to see the complete record, click Links > Display > Type Full Record.
