Find Technical Information on a Specific Topic?

TOPIC: In the Dialog engineering collection a number of databases will meet your search needs. Several can be used for our search: Ei Compendex® (File 8), Inspec® (File 2) and NTIS: National Technical Information Society (File 6). On Dialog these three files can be searched together, or we can search the entire Engineering category (ENG).

In this example we are looking for information on an identification technology being used to ensure better security. We'll use Inspec (File 2). In selecting search terms for this radio frequency identification technology, it is important to use various forms of the same term for a comprehensive search.

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN File 2, Inspec. 2. SELECT all forms of the search term, including acronyms. Note the proximity connector (w) or () is used to retrieve words next to each other in the exact order specified. 3. SELECT all forms of the search term GEN 2, using proximity connectors between two words of a phrase.
4. TYPE Set 2 (S2) in an abbreviated format (Format 8) to see descriptors that might supply additional terms for the search. Identifiers also supply indexing terms, often new terms. Record 3 is a conference paper. Note: Some of the records are omitted from this display.
5. To see a complete record, in this case with an abstract, click Links at the top of the record > Display > Type Full Record.
