Find Titles and Parts of the Code of Federal Regulations on Dialog?

TOPIC: The Federal Register (File 180) provides the fulltext of the daily Federal Register publication, starting January 1985 to the present. The Federal Register is an official publication of the United States government and is the medium for notifying the public of official agency actions. It is published Monday through Friday except Federal holidays. The coverage includes the following categories: Executive orders and other Presidential documents, agency rules and regulations, proposed rules, notices, and Sunshine Act meetings. Corrections, Tables of Contents, and Unified Agenda records are also available online.

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is an annually revised codification of rules that have been published first in the Federal Register. The CFR is divided into 50 titles, related to different agencies or topical areas such as FARS (Federal Acquisition Regulations—Title 48) and Presidential Executive Orders (Title 3).

For this example we are looking for a Department of Labor (DOL) regulation dated January 8, 2008 about 29 CFR Part 1910.

Note: For answers to frequently asked questions on the Federal Register and on search features of File 180 see ???[provide link to FAQ].

COMMAND SUMMARY

BEGIN 180
SELECT 29(W)CFR(S)1910
SELECT S1 AND PD=20080108
TYPE S1/8/1
TYPE S1/9/1

HOW TO...

1. BEGIN File 180 to search the Federal Register.

2. SELECT the citation from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The title is the first number and the part or section is the second number.

Using /CF restricts retrieval to the CFR (Sections Affected) field and prevents possible retrieval from a Table of Contents record.

3. Combine Set 1 (S1) with the Publication Date (PD=).

Tip: Refer to the Bluesheet for the correct date format.

your results in a format that gives the information needed.

Tip: Since Federal Register documents can be very long, a format such as Format 8 (Short) will give title and word count.

In a search result where there is more than one record, using Format 8 first provides enough information to choose appropriate titles and to eliminate documents that are exceptionally long or not needed.
