Find Forecast Data on a Country?
TOPIC: When you plan to conduct business in a specific country, you need to investigate the risk of doing business, as well as forecasts of economic stability and economic trends. Several databases on Dialog provide analysis and forecasts of doing business in different countries.
These files include INVESTEXT® PDF Fulltext (File 745), EIU: Country Risk and Forecasts (File 628) and EIU: VIEWSWIRE (File 620). INVESTEXT is an index to company, industry, and geographic research reports written by analysts at more than 600 leading investment banks, brokerage houses and consulting firms worldwide. The reports are particularly useful for market research, strategic planning, competitive analysis, and financial forecasting. VIEWSWIRE (File 620) contains daily briefings on key market developments around the world, timely assessments and forecasts of changing market conditions and the implications for business, including regular country updates, consensus currency, interest and equity forecasts, country forecast summaries, five-year forecast tables and country risk summaries.
In this example we'll use EIU: Country Risk and Forecasts (File 628) to find forecast data for Mexico. File 628 provides insightful analysis of the short- and medium-term economic creditworthiness of over 90 countries and gives a medium-term outlook into economic, political and business trends in 58 countries.

The political stalemate of a year ago has been replaced
by a proactive new government intent on pushing forward its
reform agenda. Early in his term of office, the president,
Felipe Calderon, has strengthened his mandate with a series
of eye-catching initiatives, and has demonstrated good
negotiating skills that will help his Partido Accion
Nacional (PAN) pass legislation, despite its minority
position in Congress. But obstacles to political
effectiveness remain,including the constant
politicking created by Mexico's busy electoral calendar.
This means that, with congressional mid-term elections
due in 2009, the Calderon government has only a narrow
window of opportunity to pass its most politically sensitive
reforms (such as energy and labour reforms), while relying
on support for its legislative programme on an ad hoc basis
from opposition congressmen, whose support is far from
assured. A good performance for the PAN in 2009 will be
crucial to maintaining momentum on the legislative agenda
to the end of the forecast period. The next general
election will be in 2012.
Continued commitment to orthodox fiscal and monetary policy
will help to consolidate policy credibility and ensure
macroeconomic stability. Moreover, an open environment for
foreign trade and investment, and a large and growing
domestic market will mean Mexico remains an attractive
destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). However,
the Economist Intelligence Unit's forecasts assume only
gradual progress in addressing constraints to competitiveness
in Mexico, including the high cost of labour and other inputs
