Find Mergers and Acquisitions of Companies in X Industry?
TOPIC: TFSD Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions (File 551) provides excellent indexing features that make it easy to find completed M&A deals in a specific industry in a particular year. The key to using File 551 for companies that are in a particular industry is to search the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code.
There are different Additional Index prefixes used for the acquirer company SIC code and the target company SIC code. Please refer to the Dialog Bluesheet for additional details on file content and coverage.
ACQUIRER COMPANY SIC CODE PREFIXES
AC= Searches primary and secondary SIC codes
AP= Searches primary SIC code
TARGET COMPANY SIC CODE PREFIXES
SC= Searches primary and secondary SIC codes
PC= Searches primary SIC code
Examples (NNNN = SIC Code)
1. Acquirer in any industry/Target in a specific industry: PC=NNNN
2. Acquirer and target in the same industry: AP=NNNN and PC=NNNN
3. Acquirer in a specific industry/Target in any industry: AP=NNNN
4. Target or Acquirer in a specific industry: AP,PC=NNNN
In this example, we'll be looking for companies in any industry that have acquired telecommunications companies.

1. BEGIN File 551 to search TFSD Worldwide Mergers & Acquisitions.
2. SELECT the SIC code in the Target Primary SIC Code (PC=) field. If you wish to search both the primary and secondary SIC codes, use the prefix SC=.
3. Combine Set 1 (S1) with the Effective Year of Deal (TY=) field. This will automatically retrieve completed deals.
