Use DIALINDEX (File 411) to Find Directory Information on International Companies?
TOPIC: When you need to find companies outside the U.S., the most economical way to start is in DIALINDEX, File 411, the Dialog index file. In DIALINDEX, you can search the indexes of files grouped by subject.
In this search you will look for basic company directory information on Weetabix, a company located in the U.K that manufactures breakfast foods. The DIALINDEX category used is INTLCO, a file grouping of international companies. To view the databases in this category, enter the SHOW FILES command.

Note: Click the Hits column header twice to see entries with most hits at the top of the column.

1. BEGIN 411 to use DIALINDEX.
2. Enter the DIALINDEX category name (INTLCO) in the Select Files box.
3. Click the EXPAND button to see a listing of spellings of the company name. |

4. Enter the two-letter prefix CO= for company, plus the company name and click the Expand button to see the entries.
Identify the company name you want and click the Back button.
Notice that DIALINDEX gives indexing, but not E numbers. |

5. Enter the search statement based on the indexing in the Select box. Use the truncation symbol "?" following the company name to retrieve all entries. Click Run Search.
Dialog found results in the following list of files.
6. Click the Hits column header twice to see the file list from most to least records.
7. Check the box(es) of file(s) you want to search and click Begin Hits.

8. Narrow the search to the headquarters location using the special feature (SF=) prefix.

9. TYPE the complete record using Format 9.
