: Setting an Alias Password
Setting an Alias Password An alias password allows you to define a password that is easy to remember and provides another level of security. The alias password is especially useful when you may need to periodically reveal the password to third parties or demonstration attendees. The alias password may be used in place of the "original" Dialog assigned password when logging on to Dialog. Your original password may be used at any time in addition to your alias password. Please keep your original password confidential at all times. How to choose an alias password Choose from three to eight numbers OR letters in any combination. No symbols may be used. The alias password in our example is tea4two. The password you set will remain in effect until you change it. How to "set" an alias password Alias passwords are set at the ? prompt by entering SET PASSWORD. The Dialog system prompts you at each step. You may change your password at any time during a search session. The example below illustrates the SET PASSWORD command and how to CANCEL or SHOW PASSWORD. The bold type indicates information you input using upper or lower case letters, followed by pressing Enter on your keyboard. The system responds after each entry.
The SET PASSWORD command is used to define an alias password for your original, Dialog assigned password. You will be prompted first for your assigned password, then for the alias you wish to set. Enter your original Dialog password (or QUIT to exit): Enter an alias password of 3-8 characters (or QUIT to exit): Receipt of alias password confirmed. Enter SHOW PASSWORD to review alias. Enter your original Dialog password (or QUIT to exit) ? cancel |
